UPDATE: On March 8, 2023, the Model Rules Committee voted in favor of this proposal and sent it to the ARCI Board for consideration. On March 9, 2023, the ARCI Board remanded this proposal to the Model Rules Committee for a Zoom meeting to be scheduled to include veterinarians for further discussion/information on this proposal.
UPDATE: On December 5, 2022, the Model Rules Committee and ARCI Board remanded this proposal to the Drug Testing Standards and Practices Committee for review and modification if necessary. The DTSP committee will meet on Friday, February 24, 2023 to consider this and other matters. It is expected that a recommendation will be forthcoming to the Model Rules Committee.
The Racing Medication and Testing Consortium has recommended amendments to clarify existing ARCI Model Rules pertaining to the restricted administration of certain substances to a horse in the days prior to a racing start. The proposals also seek to harmonize a policy that has been proposed to the FTC by the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA).
